ACCESS convened a virtual capacity development session for civil society organizations (CSOs) on digital advocacy, on October 9th 2024.

Digital advocacy plays a key role in shaping policies by raising awareness, educating communities, and fostering partnerships and collaborations.

Vanessa Lustosa and Sarah Nyakio from the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) led an in-depth presentation on social media advocacy, focusing on how to create compelling narratives and utilizing various digital platforms for maximum engagement.

The goal of the training was to equip CSOs with the necessary skills and tools to enhance their digital advocacy efforts, particularly in supporting the implementation of SDG 7 and ensuring a socially just transition to renewable energy.

Florence Gichoya, Communications and Membership Manager, ACCESS Coalition highlighted the potential for civil society organizations to tell their own stories effectively because of their deep understanding of advocacy issues affecting their communities.

The 60-minute session provided participants with essential digital advocacy skills, covering the following topics:

  • Developing effective digital advocacy strategies
  • Implementing impactful tactics
  • Creating engaging content
  • Measuring metrics and evaluating impact
  • Ensuring online safety and protection

The presentations included practical examples, such as successful campaigns like the #SaveCongoRainForest and ‘Stop EACOP’, illustrating how social media can drive environmental activism and influence public opinion.
